Can the Corona virus spread through pools and hot tubs?

With all of the stress and panic over the recent out break of the Corona (COVID-19) virus, I think most of us are hoping for a moment of no worrying and relaxation. What better place to relax than by your pool? (well, once the sunshine comes back!)

However, with little known about the virus, many pool and/or spa owners may be asking themselves, can the Corona virus spread through my pool and/or hot tub?!

According to the CDC, "There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19." (Source)

The CDC recommends for disinfection against the Corona virus, diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol, and most common EPA-registered household disinfectants should be effective.

If you compare household bleach to pool chlorine, gram for gram, the pool chlorine will provide 11 times more FAC (the disinfecting power in an water-based solution) than household bleach!

For all of our maintenance clients, our pool technicians are taking every precaution they can while on and off of your property to ensure they do not contribute to any spread of the virus.

Our technicians are encouraged to stay home if they have any symptoms of the virus. As of now we are all in good health and will update you if any changes occur.
